Fireside Chats ~ Volume XVII ~ Blacleria

At some point in your life, you discovered deviantART. What did you think about it and why did you create your account?

4 ½ years ago, I saw that some of my internet friends from another forum had deviantART accounts, so I visited their accounts and got to know deviantART. Since I have been interested in art, for as long as I can remember, I immediately browsed through all the deviations and was quite impressed and inspired by all the artworks I saw. After some time I also wanted to be part of this community, so I joined dA.

Is there a story behind your deviantART name?

Well, at first I was searching for a username which has something to do with Sirius Black in the Harry Potter books, as I used to be a fan of him. However, I also wanted to have a username with a nice sound, so I though of his surname "Black" and how to make a username out of this word, which also describes one of my favourite colours. Finally, after some time of brainstorming, I had "Blackleria" in my mind, but finally deleted the "k" because I thought the username looked better without this letter
Nothing special, I don't consider even consider it as a "story", but I quite like my username even after 4 years ^.^

What do you like most about dA? Least?

Actually, I consider deviantART not "just" as an opportunity for artists to showcase their own artworks, but also to enjoy other artworks and to communicate with artists from all over the world. I really enjoy seeing all the art, there is so much high-quality art, which is so inspiring to me and pushes me to make new art again and again. However, this is also a negative thing of deviantART, with the community being so large and bunches of new artworks coming up every day, one nearly feels nearly lost in it; especially for new deviants. It is difficult getting into this community and gaining recognition.

As a Child did you have an interest in Art, Literature, Photography and/or Crafting of any sort?

Yes, indeed. Since I was 2-3 years old I was drawing, mostly humans. Of course my oldest works were just made for fun and looked very awful, and I was also just drawing things I had in my mind, inspired by my surroundings and films/books (I used to draw lots of Disney inspired things!). However, I only drew with felt pens and pencils and nearly always full-body figures, no portraits. If you are interested in some of my oldest works, check out my scraps. Do you favor one medium over another? Why?

Hmm, that's a difficult question, because I enjoy drawing and painting with lots of mediums, like pencil, charcoal, pastels, oil pastels, acrylic and oil colour, but also digital art. I also like watercolours a lot, as one can achieve beautiful effects with them. Unfortunately when it comes to watercolours I am immensely untalented, same with crafting of any kind.

:=? What are your favorite genres as they pertain to movies, art, music and books?

I like quite a lot of genres, mostly I don't distinguish between genres regarding these themes. However, I have some preferences; when it comes to movies I like thriller, drama, comedy and fantasy movies (I totally dislike any love movies!). :artist: In art I prefer expressive and naturalistic artworks, especially featuring the human face/body. I like listening to a variety of songs, there is no genre I really prefer at all. My favourite book genre is fantasy.

What would be your ideal day? Why? Would you share it with someone else?

Well, another difficult question^^ I love to travel to other countries to experience their culture and the city-life, so my ideal day would probably be traveling to any nice capital city in any country (like London, Rome, Paris, Tokyo, New York, …) with some friends, enjoying the atmosphere and eating something like ice-cream or sushi

What Groups to you own and/or are in? Why?

I have joined a lot of groups, most of them are related to traditional art in any way, but as I am also interested in digital art, I am also part of some groups related to this theme. Some of the groups I am part of are specialized on fandoms I like (for example House MD or Harry Potter), or on portraits, as I am myself enjoying drawing/painting portraits a lot.

What should other deviants "know" about you?

Well, I don't think there is anything much interesting about be what other deviants should know. Hmm...may be my love for sushi at the moment? I really don't know!

Which deviations would you recommend deviants link to in your gallery?

I think this depends on what kind of art someone prefers, naturalistic or expressive artworks, I am doing both; Of course I am quite proud of my "It's not Lupus" drawing, which also got a daily deviation recently, but also of my newest eye painting.
